Jörg Iwer is currently principle
conductor and artistic director of the orchestra and theater in
Lutherstadt Wittenberg, where Martin Luther lived and taught. In
addition to these duties, he enjoys his frequent work with youth
and student orchestras which has afforded him an excellent
reputation as an orchestral pedagogue.
In addition to standard operatic and concert
works, his extensive repertoire (ranging from baroque to
contemporary music) emphasizes in particular orchestral works of
the first half of the 20 century, the transitionary realm between
jazz and classical music and the music of modern composers.
Within the domain of musical theater he has conducted innumerable
musicals in addition to opera, including more than 50 premieres
at German opera houses.

His interpretations are distinguished by his
two-fold approach to the works he conducts: as an interpreter and
a composer. He continuously strives to impart the essence of each
work with great clarity and lucidity, to reveal the emotional as
well as the intellectual and transcendental content of the piece,
and above all to make these accessible to his audience who
rightfully expects entertainment in addition to spiritual
enlightenment from musical performances.
